Many of the businesses look down at the heels and way undercapitalized, with sparse merchandise displays and unattractive showrooms. It makes me question whether there are well-run, well-stocked businesses inside. If I'm going to patronize a business I'm not familiar with, I need to feel relatively confident that the owners/employees are competent. Appearance matters! It tells me if a proprietor cares or not. Part of a good shopping experience is an attractive environment. Also, iron bars in the windows and bright red and yellow signage turn me off.
